Microsoft Office -

There are currently 2 main "flavors" of Microsoft Office. One is software in your computer that doesn't require internet access. We call that "local software". The other is web-based that uses the internet to sync your computer with the cloud OR just allows you to use their website for all your computer needs (also cloud based). Office 2016 is cloud-based. Other Microsoft Office suites are local. Below is information related to some local versions of Microsoft Office.

Microsoft makes the same kind of products as Google; except they usually cost money depending on the product. Microsoft Office is software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) that is discounted in price for teachers and students. The below software is on your local computer; not the cloud. Therefore, you need to purchase additional copies for each device you want to use it on. Cloud-based version do not require more than one copy because you can access it from any device with internet access.

  • Word (Used to write letters, make posters, flyers, printable calendars, etc.) Introduction (6 min)
  • Excel (Used to make spreadsheets that can calculate numbers in columns and rows.) Introduction (10 min)
  • PowerPoint (Used to create digital presentations of information, images, videos, etc.) Introduction (11 min)
  • *There are more parts to Microsoft Office, but this site is providing a sample of the more commonly used products. If there is a feature you want to know how to use within your software, you can contact me or go to YouTube and search by the version of the software you are using and end it with the word,"tutorial". There you may find how-to tutorial videos for the feature you want to learn. For example: "Microsoft Word 2010 Copy and Paste tutorial".

Additionally, when you watch a video from someone on YouTube and you like their instructional style, other videos they did may appear on the right hand preview column of your screen. You should look for the same author name to stay with the same presenter. You can also sign into YouTube (free account) and then click on "subscribe" to be linked to the presenter's current videos and to be notified when new videos are uploaded by that presenter.
